Work Diary19th June

Well it official. My last day as the Sports Subject Mentor will be the 31st July as my College will not renew my contract for the next academic year. Happy days. Cleared my e-mails and checked my ezine that will go out regarding the COLEG Repositoty. Asked my Advisory group if one of them would consider taking over my role. Difficult choice for Colin as all of them could do a great job. I will organise a meeting with SQA and SkillsActive to do some forward planning for the next person to take over, as I see the Subject Mentor role developing into both Strategic and Functional areas. Hope that my "replacement" will enjoy the challenge as much as I have.
Roll on the summer holidays!!!!

Work Diary 12th June 2008

Well 2 weeks to go!
2 main tasks today' Firstly to clear e-mails and secondly to prepare an ezine to be sent out to all my sport subject networks in relation to the COLEG Repository. Once Jackie Graham has vetted this, I will ask Murray Allan to put this on my PP site. I have included a List of all "College Designated Content Depositors" who will be responsible for "uploading" information at each College. I will then send this out to all of my Sports community as a direct link to the COLEG site.
See you all soon on Thursday 26th June in Glasgow. Bring plenty of paper drinking vouchers.

Work Diary- 5th June 2008

Well there wont be too more of these postings as my College (Adam Smith) will not extend my SFEU Subject Mentors contract next academic session. So I will be finishing at the end of the month. Thanks for all the support and help from everyone. It is good to be at the start of something new as we can all help shape the "direction" and model of delivery to the FE sector. Keep up the good work everyone. Remember "small steps" can make a difference.
_ Amended my presentation for College People week as Jackie Graham and I are doing a double act (Friday 6th June) and going over the COLEG Repository for the workshop tomorrow. Thanks to Jackie for all her support and patience on this. Well done to Claire on the article in the Glasgow Herald last week. Good Job. Checked all of the e-mails and I will see you all at the bash in Glasgow at the end of the month (26th June).
Happy days.
Bob

Work Diary - 29th May 08

Meet with Sandy King (Advisory group member) and Jckie Grahame (COLEG) to discuss the COLEG Repository ( Main Sports Project) in terms of: Cost of providing Licence( 20k x50) to run with the site- 50 "uploading" licence's, an update on training of College staff- completed by mid June, College key contact in terms of "uploading"- Colleges to roll out by mid June-Sept , individual log in- College responsibility, pilot phase dates-Sept/Oct, final version dates- mid June. Jackie also took Sandy and I through the site in terms of a "demonstration" so that Bob could take delegates through the site on College people week. We also discussed the "potential issues" of one person per College having to Upload material. The issue of Staff time, and "tagging" material was high on the agenda.
Sandy and I went on to discuss some key issues that were raised at the "Subject network Evaluation event, 22nd May. Some of the priorities discussed were closer links with SQA on a Strategic level- Invite on to Design teams/ joint events, Sporsorship opportunities with Employers and Closer links with Employes through Skillsactive ( Pam Scott). We also discussed the issue of College staff having "secondments" to key employers (As the N.I. Model) We agreed that we should still have 1 Sport and Recreation event with specific topics on the agenda. (March 2009) as well as having a full list of SFEU events given to our network, so people can be "selective" on what they can go to. Will be working at the weekend on a powerpoint presentation for "College People Week Friday 6th June. No time to check any e-mails today. Another day gone in the "blink of an eye"!!

Work Diary

We (subject Mentors all had a very productive meeting in terms of the evaluation exercise and meeting out colleagues from Ireland. A lot of issues were discussed that will affect the direction that we may all take next year. (if our Colleges allow us to continue in this role!!) The issues of employer involvement, Strategic overview with SQA/Sector Skills Councils. The "rebranding" of the organisation(s) will present both opportunities and threats. Still it makes life interesting.
Checked a few e-mails and I am waiting to see if my college will allow me to attend the College people week so that I can work on a presentation. Happy days!!
I wish Annamarie all the best for her move to Canada. Many thanks for the support and help to me and my Advisory group. Dont eat too much at the "seven windows". HAve a great time in Canada.

Sports Subject Network Event- Cumbernauld College

We had the launch of my Sports Subject Network yesterday at Cumbernauld College with 31 delegates attending from 13 Colleges. Delighted with the numbers for this event. (Peggy- close to your numbers!!!)The conference centre at Cumbernauld College was a perfect venue and delegates were taken through issues about Graded units, e-portfolios and employability, Web conferencing, and material sharing "swap shop" GOLEG Repository. The event went very well and all delegates went away "wiser" and with much to think about. We had a small "glitch" with the "technology" but that just added to the joys of working in the "real world" where nothing is perfect.
Many thanks to all the presenters and delegates for giving up there time and making my first sports network event go with a bang. I will add some pictures soon so that we can all see the event in action. Now off to e-mail all the presenters to thank them for making the event so successful.

13th March 08

Thanks to Annamarie for going over how to navigate through this site. We had spent some time today practicing adding video clips from u-tube and images. All new to me.
The key issues for me this week has been to have a look over the COLEG repository site that we are using for the Sports material sharing "Swap Shop" and this will be launched at my Sport Subject Network event next week at Cumbernauld College, 20th March.
I will also send out a reminder about the event to drum up more business as Peggy has set the standard for the numbers at her event last week.
I have also set a up a meeting with my Advisory Group on 24th April to see where we are and what other areas to explore.
Colin gave me information about a product called "Swordfish" which can be used to analyse sporting techniques. Langside College are interested for the company to do a demonstration and I am keen to see this.
this ist attempt in u-tube

funny sport moment
